News from the Field – Mara Migrations August 2009

South of the Mara, still well inside Tanzania, the steady and constant advance of the wildebeest moves ever closer.

The annual migration is making good progress towards the Kenyan border and the Masai Mara. Reports last week suggested that the main herd in the Serengeti have split leaving one half in Bologonja and one half in the western corridor.

This is not unusual prior to the final lunge towards the green plains of the Mara. All being well we may see the 2009 pioneers start to cross the Mara river some time from early July. From then on they will be in easy striking distance of the camp.

There are many factors, including the quality of grass and surrounding rain, which speed or slow this advance of the annual torrent of animals.  

We had an amazing and magical holiday and it ran smoothly and we loved all the places we stayed in. We will never forget the wonderful experiences, sights, smells and wonderful service and food we received.
